Born in 1925, Ahmed Mestiri was one of the strongest activists against colonialism and one of the builders of the modern Tunisian state. He has held numerous ministerial positions including Defense, Interior, Justice and Finance.
In 2013, he was proposed for the post of Head of Government following the national dialogue.
In the first government formed by Habib Bourguiba, Mestiri is entrusted with the Ministry of Justice, where he actively participates in the "Tunisification" of the judiciary, the promulgation of new laws and the drafting of the Personal Status Code.
