These harmful chemicals leach coral of its nutrients causing it to bleach, while also disrupting the development of fish and other sea life.
Dangerous sunscreen brands are now banned from sale in Hawaii, but unfortunately there's nothing stopping out-of-state visitors from bringing it with them. Avoid damaging ingredients like petrolatum, oxybenzone and octinoxate to ensure the suncreen you choose is reef-safe
