Israel sells 50 millions cubic meters of water to jordan
Sky world news/ environnement /ISRAEL / TOWARDS A CHANGE TOWARDS JORDAN Israel sells 50 million cubic meters of water to Jordan.
An encouraging sign between jordan and israel: the sale accepted by Bennett of 50 million cubic meters of water.
The biggest sale of its kind since 1994v to a country which hosts millions of refugees and faces a severe water shortage that threatens to destabilize the monarchy.
"Israel has never sold such amounts of water to Jordan," said EcoPeace Middle East Israel director Gideon Bromberg, who has long been involved in water issues in the region.
“This is a reflection of a time when the two sides have the opportunity to create a healthier common political environment, he added.
“ Israel and Jordan must improve their relations and issues of water and 'energy can be central to the damage repair process.
The water sale offer comes shortly after Mr. Bennett takes office and ahead of the separate trips he and King Abdullah plan to make to Washington this summer for their first independent meetings with Joe Biden. While Jordan had requested an annual allocation of 50 million cubic meters for five years, Bennett did not give his initial agreement until 2022.
The request should then be reviewed depending, in particular, on the water levels of the Kineret, which currently allows such a sale.
It is still unknown how much Amman will pay.
Past sales, such as increasing the annual water allocation of 10 million cubic meters in 2010, and the allocation of three million cubic meters to Jordan in April of this year, put the price at 40 cents per cubic meter.
Relations with Jordan, one of Israel's main regional strategic partners, have been strained during the 12-year tenure of Bin yamin Netanyahu.
Not to mention the other points of contention, we remember that the latter had been reluctant to approve Jordan's April request for three million cubic meters.
