Tunisia: 16 new solar power plants will be built

Sky world news/

Tunisia has just launched a 4th call for tenders for the construction of 16 solar power plants with a combined capacity of 70 MW. Interested companies have until February 9, 2021 to bid. According to the call for tenders from the Ministry of Energy, solar power plants should have capacities between 1 and 10 MW, the aim being to increase the national solar capacity by 70 MW by building 6 plants of 10 MW and 10 others of 1 MW.

The plants will be built according to the BOOT model which stipulates that the developer builds and operates the plant for a period of time before transferring ownership to the state. The output of the power stations will be automatically acquired by the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (Steg). The first call for tenders of this type was launched by Tunisia in May 2017 for the installation of 7 power plants of 10 MW. Construction work on these infrastructures started last May
